This Cape Cod engagement session is one that I wish I could shoot all over again. It’s no secret that New England will always have my heart – it’s why I moved here from NYC (nine!!!) years ago. So when Ali suggested I meet her and Michael in Chatham, a place that’s really special to them, I was super excited to go to several of “their” spots.
We met at The Chatham Squire for a cocktail before going over to Eastward Ho!, a golf club near Michael’s family’s summer home. We wrapped up with a stroll along the beach just before sunset. With just two weeks to go before their coastal wedding at the Abenaqui Country Club in Rye, NH, this was the perfect opportunity for some pre-wedding day photos. As some of my couples have also experienced, my dog Brooklyn made an appearance and was ever so happy to blast up and down the beach and join Michael and Ali for some portraits. Being right on their slice of ocean was an opportunity not just to create an intimate and personal environment, but to freeze moments in time in a place that’s especially important to them. It’s the location of a multitude of beautiful moments, this one included.
One of my favorite images from this shoot was taken at Eastward Ho!. Though we were on the Cape, it felt like we could easily be in the rolling hills of Scotland (I have yet to go to Scotland, but I imagine this is what it looks like!). The wind blew just right and as the sun was starting to dip, we took some portraits that still stick with me. As the evening drew to a close, Michael and Ali left me with a few local recommendations for dinner and my husband, Brooklyn, and I got a spot of our own in the area to explore for a few days and scout all the beautiful spots to shoot on Cape Cod.
Over the course of the weekend, we strolled around Provincetown – another favorite location of mine, visited the Chatham Bars Inn and had the MOST scrumptious lunch by the ocean, visited a couple of wineries, and spent as much time as possible strolling and exploring the beaches. When I travel for a shoot, I typically add on a few days to dive in and find hidden gems for future sessions. I’m so fortunate to work on the ocean a lot, and am always on the lookout for new sources of coastal inspiration.
