Austin, Sarah, and I met up on Cape Cod during the last warm days of summer, before boats were taken out of the water and the air turned crisp with autumn. The Cape is also where their September wedding will be held, at Sarah’s parents’ beautiful, cozy coastal home. The property is the definition of classic New England, with a dock leading to the ocean, making you feel like you are a world away from everything else.

Austin and Sarah are the kind of people who don’t sit still. Whether they’re sailing, skiing, snorkeling, or boarding a plane to explore a new corner of the world, adventure is their baseline. So when it came time to plan their engagement session, we knew we weren’t just going to stroll along the water. We’d be getting out on the water and leaning into the coastal lifestyle they embody.
For their engagement session, we hopped on Sarah’s family boat and took off. We found quiet little nooks and hidden meadows that were completely empty and stopped to explore them. We did stroll along the water, but with a family of seagulls following along, on an entirely untouched piece of the Cape. Eventually, with drinks in their hands, they toasted the sunset before jumping off the boat and into the ocean. It was just us and the expanse of the coast, the low jingle of nearby boats our only accompanying sound.
The light at the end of the evening was almost surreal, a glow that you get on the Cape when the salt air and the setting sun hit just right. It feels exactly like the version of Cape Cod that locals know and love, away from the crowds and right in the middle of the natural landscape.

Working with Austin and Sarah for their wedding is extra special for us due to our history together. Austin is a talented videographer/photographer and we’ve worked alongside him at weddings for years. After spending so many weekends together capturing other people’s milestones, I’m so excited that it’s his turn, this time on the other side of the lens. Several vendors we know are coming together to make the day incredible for this super fun couple, and we’re thrilled to be a part of what I know is going to be one hell of a vibrant celebration.
Documenting the wedding of someone who’s become a friend and colleague is a huge privilege. I remember when Austin first met Sarah, seeing his enthusiasm and chatting about the incredible girl he’d met. It was clear he was smitten off the bat. When the beautiful girl he was so excited about turned into his girlfriend, I loved following their adventures on Instagram (and still do). For our engagement session, they were in their element, totally relaxed and ready for their biggest adventure of all.
